Obecnie na znacznej części jego dawnego obszaru znajdują się osiedla mieszkaniowe, a ulica Powstańców Śląskich została poprowadzona w miejscu dawnego pasa startowego. Dzisiejsze lotnisko wciąż pełni jednak istotne funkcje: oprócz wspierania działalności Aeroklubu, jest także bazą Lotniczego Pogotowia Ratunkowego, z której codziennie startują śmigłowce ratujące życie mieszkańcom Warszawy i okolicznych miejscowości. W zlokalizowanym tam symulatorze lotu szkolą się piloci charakterystycznych żółtych maszyn.

The Warsaw-Babice Airport, formerly known as Bemowo Airport, has a long and colorful history dating back to the pre-war period. During the communist era, it was part of a large military complex. In 1957, a massive air show was held there as part of Aviation Week, featuring around 400 aircraft and an audience of 300,000. In 1996, the airport hosted Michael Jackson’s only concert in Poland.

As the city expanded and flight operations became more burdensome for nearby residents, parts of the airfield were gradually phased out. Today, residential neighborhoods have replaced much of the old airport grounds, and Powstańców Śląskich Street now runs along the former runway. Nevertheless, the airport remains active – not only supporting the Aero Club but also serving as a base for the Air Ambulance Service, with daily rescue helicopter flights and a flight simulator used to train emergency pilots.

Der Warschauer Aeroklub, gegründet im Oktober 1927, ist eines der ältesten und renommiertesten Luftfahrtvereine Polens. Seit fast einem Jahrhundert spielt er eine bedeutende Rolle in der Entwicklung der polnischen zivilen und sportlichen Luftfahrt und bildet Generationen von Piloten, Segelfliegern und Fallschirmspringern aus. Unter dem Himmel Warschaus werden hier Träume vom Fliegen Wirklichkeit – sowohl für Profis als auch für Amateure.

Der Aeroklub hat seinen Sitz auf dem Gelände des Flughafens Warschau-Babice, im Stadtteil Bemowo, nur wenige Minuten vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Mit dem Wachstum der Stadt und zunehmenden Beschwerden von Anwohnern wurde der Flugplatz schrittweise zurückgebaut. Heute befinden sich auf einem Großteil des ehemaligen Geländes Wohnsiedlungen, und die Powstańców-Śląskich-Straße verläuft entlang der alten Startbahn. Trotzdem bleibt der Flugplatz aktiv: Er unterstützt nicht nur die Aktivitäten des Aeroklubs, sondern dient auch als Basis für den Rettungshubschrauber-Dienst, einschließlich eines modernen Flugsimulators zur Pilotenausbildung.

Aujourd’hui, des zones résidentielles occupent une grande partie de l’ancien site, et la rue Powstańców Śląskich suit le tracé de l’ancienne piste. Néanmoins, l’aéroport reste actif : il continue de soutenir les activités de l’Aéroclub, mais sert aussi de base au service d’hélicoptères de secours, avec un simulateur de vol destiné à la formation des pilotes.
