Gingerbread City in the Gliwice Railway
Wrapped in snow and illuminated by thousands of lights, made one hundred percent from gingerbread. The world’s largest model of its kind will open on December 3, 2019 in Gliwice’s Kolejkowo.
Crossing the walls of the gingerbread city, you will meet dozens of characters who reside among the iced, gingerbread-scented and cinnamon-scented houses. In the distance you will see a fortified fortress. It protects the town, further away emerges the prince’s castle giving it a fairy-tale atmosphere. Among the Christmas trees decorated with colorful chains and baubles, a chocolate train speeds by. It invites all the characters living in the gingerbread city on a journey, reminding them of the wonderful magic of Christmas….
World’s largest gingerbread model open from December 3 to January 6, 2020
The world’s largest railroad gingerbread model will open its gates on December 3 punctually at 12:00 at the Gliwice Railway Station. This internationally unique project is a reference to Silesian gingerbread baking traditions. In the 14th century, the tradition of products made from this delicious dough was alive in what is now Silesia. In Kolejkow, ancient confectionery methods were used and huge gingerbreads were prepared using wooden molds. In total, the gingerbread city consists of 1.1 tons of dough!
In creating this model, we wanted to refer to the cradle of gingerbread baking, so we decided that we would open the Gingerbread City in Silesia in Kolejkowo, Gliwice. To respect the traditional baker’s craft, we baked each piece in large molds and then cut them out accordingly. There was a lot of work, but the result is impressive,” says Kolejkow creator Jakub Paczynski
A trip to the wonderful Gingerbread City is the perfect way to feel the magic of the holidays. Family time surrounded by aromatic gingerbread and Christmas trees is also a great idea for a holiday getaway. Kolejkowo is also open on the first and second days of Christmas.The unique exhibition can be admired from December 3 to January 6. The organizers assure that they will extend the time to visit if there is interest.
Wonderful world of miniatures available all year round
Kolejkowo is located in the Europa Centralna Shopping Center (315 Pszczyńska Street) in Gliwice. It is open 365 days a year, from 10 am to 6 pm, including all Sundays and holidays. The entrance ticket costs PLN 19 – normal and PLN 15 – reduced (discount applies to children aged 3 to 18, students, pensioners, disabled persons). Children under the age of 3 visit the model free of charge.
