Top 5 attractions in Silesia

Silesia is a place that surprises you with its cultural diversity and allows you to marvel at its industrial history. What is worth seeing and where to go in Silesia? Here are our 5 types.

Castle in Bedzin

The castle, located on the banks of the Czarna Przemsza River, was one of the key defensive links of Poland’s western border. The building was first mentioned in 1349 and its thresholds were visited by famous kings such as Henry Valezy and John II Sobieski. In 1616, as a result of a fire, the castle burned down. The castle was rebuilt, but changed its character completely. No longer a defensive point, it began to serve as a residence. The castle owes its current appearance to restoration, which began in 1834. The history of the castle and its current appearance has appealed to the developers of Kolejkov, who are working to create a miniature Castle in Bedzin.

Queue

The largest railroad mock-up in Poland, which will take everyone on an extraordinary journey. Among the thousands of miniatures you can find the Wright Brothers during the construction of the first airplane, scenes straight out of the Wild West or go on a cruise on a Western River ship. In the miniature world you can experience many days and nights and this is all due to the changing times of the day. In Kolejkovo, day lasts 9 minutes and night lasts 4 minutes, then lanterns light up all over the model, the light dims and a completely different reality of the inhabitants of the miniature world appears to your eyes. Kolejkowo is in control of the weather, only here the rain falls on cue. The model on which it rains real rain is the only model in the world on which you can observe this phenomenon.

Legendia

The largest theme park in Poland can be found in Silesia! Legendia has been operating in Chorzow for almost 60 years and is an extraordinary treat for fun-loving people. On 26 hectares you will find more than 40 attractions for the whole family. Legendia has a magical atmosphere and the theme of the place is legends and fairy tales. This way you can introduce children to the legends associated with the region in an accessible way.

Smelter Room

While in Silesia, you can’t miss their industrial gems. One of them is the Huta Pokój, located in Ruda Śląska. The now defunct furnace of the smelter is one of the most characteristic buildings in the Nowy Bytom district. Its size is impressive, it is a 40-meter high structure.
Huta Pokój has permanently inscribed itself in the landscape of Nowy Bytom, and residents feel a great bond with this object. The smelter is considered a symbol of Polish metallurgy, also by the creators of Kolejkow. Its miniature can be seen in Gliwice’s Kolejkow.

Nikiszowiec

Workers’ housing estate built between 1908 and 1919 due to overcrowding in Giszowiec. The estate has nine buildings and they are made of bricks, which give the place an amazing character. In the inner courtyards, residents had pigsties, bread ovens and cells. Of particular note are the architectural details on the walls of the buildings. The most impressive building in Nikiszowiec is St. Anne’s Church, which surprises with its grandeur. Like the entire estate, it is made of bricks. In the center of the estate there is also a small market square, at which there is a former inn with a characteristic mosaic, depicting roses. The history of the Nikiszowiec estate and its charm, has not escaped the attention of the creators of Kolejkow. On the Gliwice model you can find both St. Anne’s Church but also other buildings, which are a faithful copy of those in Nikiszowiec.
